Microteaching

At the PGCert Microteaching, I tailored the online workshop “Sharing Senses” I have been doing in my artist practice to a physical workshop. Through this Microteaching experience, I have seen improvements in the physical workshop, so I would like to describe some of them here.

The first improvement is facilitation, especially speaking and guidance. Since this workshop was held online, I did activities using text reading and slides presentation. This time, although I prepared slides and printed out texts for the presentation in advance, I decided to do a trial intentionally without using text prints or slides due to my practice for future physical facilitation. Therefore, it became poor facilitation, including the guidance in activity. However, I could learn a lot about how to progress a physical workshop without using text print or slides, and it became clear and I learnt the point where I needed to improve.

– Break the section into smaller pieces to clarify the main points to note
– a necessity for the practice of physical presentation version

– rewriting the texts and practice for guidance

– reconsider using the slide for facilitation; it needs to convert the slide to a physical presentation version

The other is the size of the voice, which has always been a problem, and this is also related to my hearing ability (because I have a more comprehensive range of hearing than other people = I can listen well, and related to that, the volume of my voice is lower than other people).
During the 1-hour observation teaching, the tutor recommended that I need to consider using a microphone, change the initial workshop settings for each workshop, and rearrange the seating positions of the participants so that they could hear their voices. In this way, I felt the need to prepare the environment first.
