What is Pedagogy?

PGCert’s first online lecture class was held on January 9th, and since then, I have started thinking about what pedagogy is. In addition, the first face-to-face class was held on January 23rd, and discussions among classmates were more substantive and based on experience. I learned much about designing and constructing an education based on empirical rules. However, honestly, I struggled to keep up with my classmates throughout the first face-to-face interactive and discursive class in Unit 1. Still, while hearing my classmates’ experiences and opinions on education, I realized the fact that almost all of my other classmates have experience in UAL and educational environments, which was a significant disadvantage for me. Since they already have experience in the field of education at UAL, I felt that I had to absorb more knowledge than the others. I realized that I had to focus more on the course and brace myself through these conversations and discussions with classmates.

After the first face-to-face class on January 23rd, I had a conversation with several cohorts with Teaching Within, which was “What is pedagogy?” as I titled. I still can’t grab and talk about this keyword, ”pedagogy”. It seems impossible to digest and understand pedagogy in this short period, but I hope that Unit 1 will at least give us some clues. It’s too huge notion for me right now, also it’s like I’m grasping at a cloud, but I hope that one by one, I’ll be able to find the branches that will give me clues and that they will become trunks and grow into small trees throughout one year.

Looking back, when I make art, I always run into the first question by sorting out something vague I don’t understand. I think I am positioned at the point where I need to find that question first.
