Thanks to the course leader and tutors at the Performance course, I could have an opportunity to attend marking the dissertation at Unite 8 for 3rd-year students, also the moderation meeting for matching the evaluation criteria.
The process of marking was This was my first experience in grading, but thanks to the tutors’ kind guidance, I could have very learnable experiences in the process of grading.
The conditions of grading between being a student and a tutor were utterly different; since the way of deciphering the assessment is different depending on the standpoint, it was one of the significant challenges to find a balance from various viewpoints, which was also a central theme when creating the lecture slide for Unit 3. For example, when making an evaluation, do I need to evaluate it relatively or an absolute evaluation?
In addition, my dissertation experience in UK education was only an MA degree, so the grading work while looking at the difference in the assessment criteria between MA and BA degrees was a great learning experience for me.
Due to scrutinizing various judgment criteria, participating in the moderation meeting was a very fruitful experience. Through the moderation meeting, I could hear the tutors’ wide variety of aspects with different directions and witness the work of reconciling the evaluation criteria during the session. Those experiences will be of great help both in subsequent grading criteria and in future assessments.
